Savage Tribe Familia write-up in LoCash Magazine

Sikboy from LoCash Magazine gave us a wonderful write-up for his up & coming magazine company, supporting Independent music, art, & more. I don't write articles or blog posts nearly as good as he, so I'll just let him do what he does best.. .
Please do go check out his website over at www.LoCashMagazine.com You can find some great musical acts, artwork, & photography that most magazines haven't covered.

"Savage Tribe Familia" - 110% real

It takes a village to raise a child, but you’re not a man untill you join the tribe. This exclusive sect of hip-hop medicine men push their remedy’s through MPC’s, diamond tipped needles and microphone cords. The four members of Savage Tribe are not your average musicians they live the life like it’s a religion. Savage and Renessis are the original seeds of the crew and Subverse holds down the Saint Louis chapter. The Tribe is overseen by Mic Ave who passed in 06 but his influence is still felt with archived verses for future release. Savage and Renessis (A.K.A. Sav and Ren) were raised in the Saint Louis, childhood friends they attended the same high school. They often crashed on each others couches when they couldn’t or didn’t want to stay at their own places. They could be found freestyling under bridges and always noticed they were the last kids out at night. Renessis acquired turntable’s at the young age of 14, after this they collected any piece of equipment and vinyl they could get their hands on, if it didn’t work they tought themselves to fix it. By the age of 18 they had original tracks and this marked the unofficial beginning of the Heavenly.Wharf.Music label which they release music on today(Click above image to check out some 2010 releases). That Summer Ren is accepted to Full Sail audio production school in Orlando Florida. The two vow to stay in touch and Ren jets down south for School. Savage and the rest of the crew stalked the streets of STL with their homegrown style of hip-hop looking for local spots to rock. A dirty downtown heavy metal bar called “Just Bill’s seemed like an unlikely place to meet like minded people untill they started hosting weekly hip-hop night. In an often strangely mixed crowd local artist’s DJ Spec, DJ Who? and Spark1duh became heavy on the scene. Savage always on grind mode contacted the venue himself and booked his own show on the strength of their tracks. After his first performance at the venue Sav was approached by DJ Spec impressed by the set, suggested they team up. The Sav and Spec live show’s were off the hook with similar influence their styles blended well and they were quickly noticed in the local scene. By 2006 they knew so many other artist putting out hot original music in Saint Louis, that they started looking for a way to get their own and their people’s music on the air waves. Always following Savage Tribe tradition of “Fuck it, we’ll do it ourselves” RawCoreRadio is launched on the internet.
Here’s a track describing Sav’s early L.A. days by East Saint Louis Crew Loose Screws ft SAV called “L.A. Times (S.T.L.A.)”

In 2010 Savage and Renessis have been hard at work in their own studio that they have been building since high school, also getting in some after business hours session’s at Private Island Studios. Underground movement RawCore Radio is being resurrected as we speak by Tribe affiliate Butcher Baker. This year also brings bangin mixtapes “U ain’t know” volumes 1 & 2 featuring Savage Tribe and an all-star cast of STL/KC artists with style by the ton. In new Ep “Padded soul” Sav remasters his favorite classic soul tracks through the MPC 2000XL, it’s perfect when you wanna leave the world behind all are available now. Keepin you warm this winter the “Reburns ep” is to be released soon, featuring all the original tribesman and recorded by DJ Spec in Saint Louis. Slated for mid 2011 Savage is goin hard with his full length solo joint called “Savagery” trust me you’ll know when that hits. You can keep up with all Heavenly Wharf business at their blog spot http://heavenlywharf.blogspot.com/ So never fear Hip-hop nation. Savage Tribe is here to conjure storms, but will always shine light on their people. Holla - Sikboy

R.I.P. PROOF

Serengeti & Polyphonic

I've been a fan of Serengeti since the early 2000's when I first heard him featured on a DJ Crucial project, "Breakfast of Champions". (yes, the 7") Although I wasn't too familiar with Polyphonic, aside from the snippets heard from his 2006 debut album "Abstract Data Ark", I was still interested when I heard the two was producing an album on Anticon Records. "Don't Give Up" was released in 2007 which contains one of my most favorite songs from Serengeti & Polyphonic, "Sunrise". I feel that the album was short lived though & not a lot of people gave it the chance. 2009 came with the release of "Terradactyl", as well as two Serengeti solo projects, "Yoome" & "Friday Night". If I could only recommend one, I would say go pick up "Friday Night". Deconstructed party raps to the max with the help of Hi-Fidel.
Serengeti & Polyphonic stated they will be releasing an Ep entitled "Bells & A Floating World" but still no word of the release date or any signs of promotions. I look at both of these artists as originators but it seems like they haven't had the best of luck together. I'm still looking forward to hearing the new project though, as long as it doesn't turn into the Detox.

Meat Grinder (Cheuuat Gaawn Chim)

Meat Grinder (Thai Horror)
This Thailand horror movie started out with a flashback in black and white showing a little girl who is about to submerged her head into a jar full of water while her parents are on the background fighting over her husbands gambling which the mother blames for their being poor and not barely having enough money for food.
Meat Grinder takes you to taste the bizarre horror of traditional noodle recipe cooked by Boot, a woman who owns a noodle stall, a unique noodle stall.
Boot has been living with tension and stress for all of her life, she works hard for her family as a noodle cook. Sometimes, she is controlled by a mysterious voice that suggests her to do or not to do things. One day, she encounters a chaos in town and is rescued by a guy named Attapol who later becomes her companion. That evening after the chaos, Bus surprisingly discovers a guy lying dead under her stall, she discreetly looks at him and comes up with her new recipe. Bus begins to slice his flesh, mix it with spices, and throw it into her noodle pot.
After her secret recipe is introduced, Boot gains so many customers and reputation of her delicious noodle. Meanwhile, the haunting voice still keeps talking to her, and tell her what to do. Boot tactfully starts to lure and murder people. The more she kills, the more of her dark side reveals. And when Attapol begins to suspect Boot's behavior, he stumbles on the evil of her as he is now the hunted.

"Gypsy Eyes" Mixed by DJ Rahdu

the words of DJ Rahdu
This mix was created around 2005-2006 and is a sexy soulful number featuring artists like Spacek, Cottonbelly and Silhouette Brown. Gypsy Eyes was created to be a Love Jones inspired mix, however when (one of) my external hard(s) drive died I lost the mix. Luckily there’s this CD that I burned when I initially started working on Gypsy Eyes; the music mixing is complete, but the drops/movie snippets aren’t there. There’s no track listing on this one because admittedly I’ve forgotten some of the tracks.
Artwork by Ron.One and scratches by DJ F/X.
Enjoy
I'm a huge fan of Soul music & was by no means disappointed when I first heard this. The artwork is what initially drew me in, reminds me of a classic Lp cover from '74. I also acquired the track listing found below w/ the download link.

1. Gypsy Eyes Intro
2. Sirius B Project – Love Has A Place in Time
3. Innervoices – slow Jam of the Year
4. Bilal – You’re All I Need (Feels Like Heaven)
5. 4th Ave Jones – Chasin’ A Dream
6. Jaguar Wright – Go to My Place
7. Silhouette Brown – Just a Little More
8. Alison Crockett – Crossroads
9. Everything But the Girl (DJ Jazzy Jeff Remix)
10. The square Egg – ?
11. Shuman – Security Instrumental
12. Gurufish – Touch Your Body
13. Dwele – The fact Is
14. Steve Spacek – Look into My Eyes
15. kingsbread – It’s Alright
16. Boozoo Bajou – Take it Slow
17. Floetry – I Want U
18. Lina – Leaving You (Diamondsoul Remix)
19. Uncut – Midnight (waiwan Remix)
20. Jaffa – Elevator

Tef Poe "Show Stealers" music video + Dollar Van Demos performance

Tef Poe "Show Stealers" music video

Tef Poe - "Show Stealers" from Joseph Lombardi on Vimeo.

St. Louis emcee Tef Poe came to Brooklyn to show off his new banger "Show Stealers". Corey Black & Nato Caliph join in on the fun from the back seat. This video was made as part of Internet Week NY.
From the Borough of Brooklyn comes Dollar Van Demos: a showcase of talented musicians, rappers and comedians performing inside a dollar van with real passengers. Dollar vans provide much-needed transportation for neighborhoods under-served by mass transit. Typically operated by West Indian drivers, the ride is cheap, adventurous and now immensely entertaining with the addition of performers singing their hearts out.

Steddy P. "BARS" promo from UAINTKNW? volume 1

From the words of Steddy P....
I began the conceptual task, and the rest is pretty self explanatory. I really don't get into battling so much anymore, feel like I'm here for something different. With the ever growing popularity of Grind Time, many cats get at me about battling again, although I feel no need to battle anyone I've been offered. Then you got these cats who worry about the flow, bars, sixteens, finesse, flair if you will, lol. I'm competitive, but I'd rather have everyone focused on reality and not fiction. I hear a lot of bullshit too while I'm grinding in the middle of the map , so I wrote something. Call it therapy...thank you. -P
Big ups once again to Steddy P. for working on the mixtape w/ us. You just might catch him on the 2nd installment....

SavageTribe Updates (from the depths of the Wharf)

We are currently involved with several projects, keeping our finger in a little bit of everything. Sav is working on two side project EP's, as well as UAINTKNW? volume 2 with Renessis. We're also working on a mixtape with a long-time affiliate SubVerse entitled "Cover Charge 2", a follow up of a previously unreleased mixtape from 2005.
Set aside the fun & games of the mixtape circuit though. We're also starting the recording of two long awaited projects. "The Reburns EP" & "Savagery LP". These will be our two major projects of the year & plan to have them finished & released by fall.
Of course we have some more projects in the works but what fun would that be giving it all away at once? Until the next time, check out the links below, you never know what you might find.

The Affiliates: Street Level Nine & TPA

New to the scene, SL-9 is a lifestyle brand that is steeped in the urban-art experience and global harmony. We come from all over the planet in a diversity of colors and styles. In the 1970's, Joe DeRoche founded TPA, one of the original NYC graffiti crews. Through worldwide status, he has successfully assembled a handful of the greatest graffiti artists from around the planet to design Street Level Nine. Spanning South America, Europe, Austral-Asia and North America, the TPA Crew thrives globally in over 13 countries and has paved the way for Street Level Nine to follow suit.
